Workshop for Radiation Safety Information Management System Coordinators

BAPETEN together with several representatives of countries in Asia, Europe and Africa, attended the Workshop for Radiation Safety Information Management System Coordinators, which was held by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) virtually from 8 to 12 March 2021.

The Radiation Safety Information Management System (RASIMS) itself is a web-based platform that provides a framework of reference for Member States to collect, analyze and view information that reflects the status of national infrastructure on radiation safety, transportation and radioactive waste.

National infrastructure for radiation safety is important to be implemented to protect humans from the harmful effects of radiation. RASIMS enables IAEA Member States to assess their radiation safety infrastructure, in line with safety requirements and recommendations of the IAEA.

The Head Center of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Sources Regulatory Assessment (P2STPFRZR) Taruniyati Handayani as the National Coordinator of RASIMS of Indonesia, was attend with two P2STPFRZR staffs. Meanwhile, from the IAEA, John Wheatley, Juan Thomas, Burcin Okyar, Dragan Avramovski and several other experts as the person in charge of the IAEA RASIMS were present as speakers and mentors in this workshop.

The aim of this workshop is to facilitate the provision of information on the national radiation safety infrastructure of each IAEA member states in RASIMS 2, ensure the completeness and accuracy of the information provided, and get input regarding the change of the new version of the RASIMS platform from RASIMS 1 to RASIMS 2.

In this workshop, there is training for filling out the elements of the TSA (Thematic Safety Area) independently on the RASIMS 2 application that is already available, and the results are discussed together by all participants virtually. From the 10 countries that participated in this workshop, 6 countries have been able to complete it well, including Indonesia.

Furthermore, each member state of the IAEA should be able to complete the TSA in RASIMS 2 until the end of this year, and the next will be assessed by the IAEA. [BHKK/Bams/IP/RA]
