Talkshow: "BAPETEN Inspection in Order to Supervise the Utilization of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Substances, In Indonesia During Covid 19 Pandemic"
Kembali 23 September 2020 | Berita BAPETEN

Nuclear is a dangerous radioactive material that can cause large-scale humanitarian disasters, so it is need to be real time monitored. The impact of technology, its neutrality, the good and bad in our daily life become the central theme in our discussion. This time BAPETEN held a special talk show on "BAPETEN Inspection in order to Supervise the Utilization of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Substances, In Indonesia during Covid 19 Pandemic".

Therefore, talk show was held through KBR Radio, on Wednesday September 23, 2020. To convey the readiness of BAPETEN in conducting inspections, to ensure utilization of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Substances (RFRS) keep implementing safety culture even during Covid 19 pandemic. Speaker from BAPETEN are Deputy Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin and Plt.Director of Inspection of Radiation and Radioactive Substances Facilities Sumedi.

In the beginning, the talkshow explain about the amount of the nuclear energy utilization that spreads around Indonesia, which are in health, industry and research. Even today, Indonesia has 3 research reactors that must be supervised, while the utilization in health field such as X-rays are spread in many clinics, and industry field such as tire factories, glass, ceramics and others are also scattered around us.

Listeners can also be interactive and ask questions by phone or chat through KBR's youtube channel. Question through chat such as when nuclear can be used as a power plant, why in Indonesia there is no nuclear power plant? It is explained that in principle, if the nuclear power plant will be built in Indonesia, BAPETEN is ready to conduct supervision both starting from development and later during its operation.

Questions over the phone. How about environmental pollution?

The case of environmental pollution in Indonesia in Batan Indah Serpong, a few months ago (February 2020). Now, the area has been remedied and the exposure is the same as the surrounding (normal conditions).

About nuclear energy for electricity needs. Is the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Muria still continue?

Speaker said Indonesia doesn’t have NPP yet, but has 3 research reactors. Related to the plan in Muria, if there is a plan or further development, BAPETEN is ready with all regulations for it.

Back to Inspection, the constraints during Covid 19 pandemic. For example, from the beginning must be ensured that the upcoming inspector must be healthy as well as the user to be inspected must be ensured equally healthy. With PSBB inspection constrained several reasons, unavailable transportation to region due to the health protocol rules contained in large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), agencies that will be inspected to conduct WFH etc.

Efforts to develop a safety culture in order to ensure the fulfillment of safety standards in the utilization of nuclear energy in the field of RFRS, inspection conducted in various ways such as through online or participatory called B@lis applications.

Inspection uses B@lis application as an application for the implementation of inspection and dose evaluation system of radiation workers. In the implementation of this inspection applications, it can be useful as a medium of reporting safety conditions, safety of facilities related to presence of ionizing radiation sources, including transfer of Radiation Sources, the latest information of radiation sources, Radiation Worker Information, and the safety and security status of ionizing radiation sources.

The application of B@lis change the implementation of inspections, from conventional inspection models to participatory inspection models, where the involvement of users (stakeholders) plays an important role in determining the effectiveness of inspection implementation. This encourages users to be able to conduct inspections independently with the same parameters and criteria as those carried out by BAPETEN inspectors, so as to ultimately foster a safety culture to ensure the fulfillment of safety standards in utilization of nuclear power of FRZR.

Inspection also by Video Call (VC), or if there is a public complaint, Bapeten will certainly ensure condition. To contact the Directorate of Inspection FRZR-BAPETEN, Tel/Fax: (021) 630 2142; Email: inspeksi@bapeten.go.id. [BHKK/SP/RA/OR]
