The event began with remarks by BAPETEN's Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government, the DPR, and the public in overseeing the use of nuclear energy in various sectors such as industry, health, and agriculture. He explained that nuclear oversight is not only technical but also encompasses social, economic, and political dimensions. "The 3S principles of Safety, Security, and Safeguards are the main foundation for ensuring that all nuclear activities in Indonesia are carried out safely and responsibly," said Haendra.

Following the remarks was Firansyah Levi, a member of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) of Bangka Belitung, who expressed his appreciation to Commission XII of the DPR RI and BAPETEN for organizing the regulatory outreach activities, which he considered crucial in increasing public understanding of the use of nuclear technology. Nuclear issues relate not only to technological aspects but also to safety, central and regional regulations, ethics, and community social preparedness. The Bangka Belitung Provincial Government holds a strategic position in supporting national policies, including long-term development plans aligned with national energy policy. He expressed the DPRD's readiness to collaborate with BAPETEN and related parties in drafting regulations that emphasize public safety and accountability in technology use.

The event was opened by Bambang Patijaya, Chairman of Commission XII of the DPR RI. In his opening remarks, he highlighted the position of nuclear energy in national energy policy, which is no longer just a last resort but has become part of the national energy mix. He emphasized that the construction of nuclear power plants (NPP or PLTN) is the responsibility of the central government, not a regional project. Bambang also expressed his appreciation for BAPETEN's active role in educating the public, despite its supervisory role.

Bambang explained that the world has approximately 440 active nuclear power plants, all of which still use uranium fuel and none of which are thorium-based. Indonesia, he said, needs to be careful not to become a testing ground for unproven technology ("don't even try it"). He cited the development of the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) from Russia as an example of a more realistic technology for future development. Bambang also emphasized the importance of learning from the world's three major nuclear accidents (Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima), which have driven improvements in the safety of the next generation of reactors.

On the same occasion, the Rector of the Pahlawan 12 Institute, Dr. Darol Arkum, emphasized the importance of education and research in the field of nuclear power. Through this activity, BAPETEN seeks to broaden public understanding that nuclear oversight is not merely about control but also a form of protection for the public so that nuclear technology can be used optimally, safely, and sustainably.

The event, attended by 155 Pahlawan 12 Institute students, was also attended by the head of the Bureau of Organisation and General Services of BAPETEN, Indra Gunawan; the Activity Manager of BAPETEN's Health Facility Licensing Function Group, Roy Candra Primarsa; and the Activity Manager of BAPETEN's Public Communication Function Group, Abdul Qohhar.

A presentation on the Regulation of Nuclear Energy Utilization in Indonesia was delivered by Abdul Qohhar. He explained the various uses of nuclear energy, from its natural sources in foodstuffs like bananas and potatoes to its applications in health and industry.

The event continued with a critical question-and-answer session from students, which was answered directly by the speakers.
