The event was opened by Taruniyati Handayani as Head of Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (P2STPFRZR) – BAPETEN. In her speech, Taruniyati said that FGD activities were based on the large number of sales and use of dental radiography portable X-ray aircraft that did not have permission from BAPETEN. Then it was also added that all portable X-ray aircraft for dental radiography entering Indonesia must be justified first before obtaining permission from BAPETEN and used by the user. The FGD activity was carried out in a hybrid manner which was attended by representatives of professional associations from the Indonesian Dental Radiology Association (IKARGI) and Collegium, importers or vendors of dental radiography portable X-ray aircraft, the Indonesian Medical Physicists Alliance (AFISMI), and the Indonesian Radiographers Association (PARI). The Head of P2STPFRZR expects that this FGD event will get a lot of input, comments that can be obtained.

The activity continued with presentations and discussions moderated by Iswandarini. The first presentation was by Rusmanto as the Coordinator of Health Assessment who delivered material justifying the use of ionizing radiation sources. The second presentation was by Titik Kartika as an Associate Radiation Supervisor who delivered material on portable X-ray aircraft safety criteria for dental radiography. Third presentation by Haris Nasutianto represented IKARGI and the collegium who delivered material on IKARGI's readiness to support portable X-ray aircraft surveillance of dental radiography.

Some of the challenges that arise at this FGD are the possibility of use by unauthorized persons, use in open areas or in rooms without adequate shielding, the possibility of instability in the position/direction of irradiation due to hand movements, the possibility of moving tools from one location to another, transfer of ownership, the general dentists that have never been taught or trained using portable X-rays,adequacy of the use of registration certificates (STRs for personnel permit requirements, allowing the use of portable X-rays in dental and oral hospitals (RSGM), and others.

During the discussion session, objections were raised regarding restrictions on technical specifications, especially minimal current strength parameters, the potential use of portable X-rays for routine inspections. Portable X-rays are limited in location and portable X-rays do not replace wall mounted X-rays, so it is ultimately necessary to arrange dental portable X-rays for specific situations and specific recommendations and others.

At the closing session, Runi said that further coordination is needed bilaterally with professional associations, importers, and justification applicants to strengthen the concept of using dental portable X-rays. BAPETEN will issue a legal instrument related to the terms of use of dental portable X-ray aircraft containing safety provisions and technical specification criteria. (P2STPFRZR/Sudrajat/BHKK/Ra/OR)
