Discussing Potential Collaboration Opportunities in Nuclear Energy, BAPETEN Received Courtesy Call from Embassy of Denmark
Kembali 26 Februari 2025 | Berita BAPETENThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) received a visit from a delegation from the Embassy of Denmark in Indonesia at the BAPETEN Office on Wednesday (26/2). This meeting aims to discuss collaboration opportunities in advancing the development of nuclear energy in Indonesia, one of which is Denmark's intention to contribute to implementing Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology.
At this meeting, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti was accompanied by Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin, Director of Regulation of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DP2IBN) Nur Syamsi Syam, Director of Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DPIBN) Wiryono, Director of Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DIIBN) Lukman Hakim, and a team from related work units.
Nur Syamsi Syam, in her speech, expressed her appreciation to the Danish Embassy delegation. The delegates who attended included Rasmus Bjerngaard, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Christoffer Rasmussen as Senior Business Development Director from Seaborg Technologies, together with Investment and Trade Advisor from the Embassy of Denmark in Indonesia, Trio Wisudhanto. Seaborg Technologies is a company engaged in nuclear reactor technology, with special expertise in the operation and maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants (NPP or PLTN).
Then continued with a presentation regarding the support that Denmark can provide in expanding the development of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) in the management of nuclear materials and/or radioactive substances in Indonesia, especially by highlighting prevention, detection, and response mechanisms within the framework of nuclear security, as well as the formulation of recommendations to increase the overall effectiveness of the national nuclear security system. "We chose Indonesia because it requires efficiency and pays attention to economic aspects. Indonesia is also suitable for the modular or floating PLTN model, considering the country's vast territory and the fact that it is surrounded by sea. We introduced our smaller-scale PLTN technology. This SMR does not always have to be used at sea but can be expanded with uses other than at sea," explained Christoffer.
The event ended with a discussion and question-and-answer session between BAPETEN and the Embassy of Denmark. Several discussion points were highlighted, including discussions on regulations and safety aspects of SMR and FNPP (Floating Nuclear Power Plant or PLTN Terapung) to the decommissioning process.
