The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) leaders received a visit from the Deputy Director of the Office of International Program—United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US-NRC), Sabrina Atack, and International Relations Specialist Joshua Admire, accompanied by Rosabelle Purnama and Amy Padilla from the United States Embassy in Indonesia on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. This activity aims to exchange information related to the supervision of nuclear energy utilization.
At this meeting, Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo was accompanied by Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti, Director of Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DPIBN) Wiryono, Director of Inspection of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DIIBN) Lukman Hakim, Head of Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Nuclear Installation and Materials (P2STPIBN) Yudi Pramono, Acting Director of Regulation of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DP2IBN) Bambang Eko Aryadi, and Manager of Functional Group Activities Indah Annisa.
Sugeng Sumbarjo, in his speech, expressed his appreciation to US-NRC for visiting BAPETEN. On that occasion, he talked about the pre-licensing scheme that BAPETEN is currently implementing as a stage of licensing for nuclear power plants in Indonesia.
"In this pre-licensing stage, we discuss design, technology, infrastructure, and human resources. We hope to learn from US-NRC, specifically about nuclear power plant supervision," he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Office of International Program - US-NRC Sabrina Atack expressed her gratitude for being received at the BAPETEN office. She also responded to the pre-licensing that BAPETEN is currently implementing. According to her, this stage is very good for reviewing design, safety profiles, and various aspects of nuclear power plants.
It is intended that this meeting can be a forum for exchanging information in terms of the formation of regulations for the use of nuclear energy in Indonesia. [BHKK/Da/Translator: GP]
