BAPETEN Audience with Bappeda West Kalimantan and Kodam XII/Tanjungpura

The Directorate of Inspection of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DIIBN) conducted an audience with the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) West Kalimantan and Regional Military Command (Kodam) XII/Tanjungpura on October 21, 2024. This activity was carried out in order to coordinate the Initial Environmental Baseline Mapping of Prospective Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) Sites in West Kalimantan, which will be carried out on October 21-24, 2024, by the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN).

The BAPETEN team was led by the Director of DIIBN, Lukman Hakim, with members Rizal Palapa, Helen Raflis, and Kosasih. In addition to BAPETEN, the Coordinator of Technology Diffusion and Innovation of the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN/Bappenas), Aruminingsih, and staff were also present. The team was welcomed by the head of Fispra Bappeda West Kalimantan, Mulyadi, and staff.

In his remarks, DIIBN Director Lukman Hakim said that the purpose of BAPETEN's visit to West Kalimantan was to conduct an Environmental Baseline Mapping around Gosong Beach. "We are here to collect data and take water and soil samples. We hope that our activities here will run smoothly and ask for support from Bappeda West Kalimantan (Kalbar)," he said.

Mulyadi expressed his gratitude for the arrival of the BAPETEN and Bappenas teams to West Kalimantan. He hopes that all of these activities will have a positive impact on the community around the Baseline Mapping location. "Hopefully the plan to build a nuclear power plant in Gosong Beach will benefit West Kalimantan, especially for the community around Gosong Beach," he added.

After that, the BAPETEN team conducted an audience with Kodam XII/Tanjungpura. The team was welcomed directly by Pangdam XII/Tanjungpura Iwan Setiawan. Pangdam XII/Tanjungpura, in his statement, expressed his support for BAPETEN's activities. According to him, coordination between agencies is very important in the plan to build a nuclear power plant in West Kalimantan.

"Thank you for taking the time to visit Kodam XII/Tanjungpura. We are ready to coordinate and support to make this activity a success," he said.

In addition to the two institutions, BAPETEN also visited the Sector Police Headquarters (Mapolsek) and the Sungai Raya Kepulauan village office. It is hoped that this activity can guarantee the safety of the community and the environment in the planned construction of the PLTN in Pantai Gosong. [BHKK/Da/Translator: GP]
