The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between BAPETEN and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia

The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia agreed to extend the cooperation by signing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) "Guidance and Supervision of Nuclear Energy Utilization in the Health Sector", on Friday (16/04), at the Ministry of Health Office, Jakarta.

The signing by the Chairman of BAPETEN Prof. Jazi Eko Istiyanto, M.Sc, Ph.D and the Minister of Health Ir. Budi Gunadi Sadikin aims to create synergy between BAPETEN and the Ministry of Health, through integrated and sustainable cooperation for the effectiveness of fostering and supervising the use of nuclear energy in the health sector.

The event began with speech by the Chairman of BAPETEN. In his remarks, Jazi expressed his enthusiasm for the extension of this cooperation.

“This collaboration is very important because in carry out our duties and responsibilities, BAPETEN and the Ministry of Health needs coordination with each other. This cooperation will contribute directly to improve safety, security, and safeguards to workers and community, and receive the maximum benefit from the use of nuclear power in the health sector,” explained Jazi.

The signing ceremony of the MoU was also witnessed by Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Dahlia C. Sinaga, Executive Secretary of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo, Head of Legal, Cooperation and Public Communication Bureau Indra Gunawan, Director of Licensing for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Sources Ishak, and Director of Inspection for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Sources Asep Saefulloh Hermawan. Meanwhile, from the Ministry of Health, witnessed by the Director General of Health Services, and the Secretariat General, Head of the Data and Information Center. Even though held offline, the event still implemented strict health protocols, so that officials and other related parties, including the media, attended online via the Zoom application.

In addition to the agreement in this MoU, BAPETEN and the Ministry of Health also preparing the implementation of this MoU, namely cooperation in interconnection sector of BALIS system with the Hospital Information System (SIRS) and Application of Facilities, Infrastructure and Medical Devices (ASPAK) belonging to the Ministry of Health, participatory inspections activities, as well as other activities such as the development and evaluation of patient data dose, handling of radioactive waste in hospitals, increasing the number of medical physicists, and the participation of professional associations in the supervision of nuclear power.
