The National Workshop on The Safety Principles and The Safety Requirement Applicable in Design of NPP

​Center of Nuclear and Installation Material (NIM) Regulatory Assessment of BAPETEN, in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), organized a National Workshop on the Safety Principles and the Safety Requirements Applicable in Design of NPP, this activity began from 3 to 7 February 2020, located on the 6th floor of the BAPETEN building.

The event was officially opened by the Chairman of BAPETEN Jazi Eko Istiyanto, Monday (03/02/2020), also attended by IAEA Nuclear Safety Officer Simone Massara, CNCS representative Douglas Miller, Chanyi Song as a representative from KINS and the Deputy Chairman of Nuclear Safety Assessment Yus Rusdian Akhmad. In his remarks, Jazi Eko Istiyanto conveyed that the aim of the workshop was to improve capability and capacity national development in the area of analysis and study of the safety of nuclear power plant. Indonesia is committed to improving surveillance infrastructure. It is hoped that this time, the workshop will make the participants more able to take benefit, be more relaxed and active in communication so as to make the workshop more productive.

Simone Massara stated that the mission of this workshop was to support member countries in achieving high safety for design as well as obtaining good safety studies. The purpose of this workshop is to provide practice and learning on safety so that can be applied into the design of nuclear power plant. The presentation began with an overview of nuclear power plant safety history with its evolution that began in the Second World War, learning from nuclear plant incidents and accidents in the world, IAEA illustrations in supporting nuclear plant safety with INSAG and its documents and introduction to trends in nuclear power plants (generation II) , generation III, generation IV, and SMR).

The presentation was followed by Head of Center of NIM Regulatory Assessment, Yudi Pramono, who explained the regulatory framework for NPP in Indonesia. In his presentation, it was stated that Indonesia already has number of regulations that are primarily sourced from the IAEA, but there are still number of regulations that have not been made by the Indonesian side for the purposes of nuclear power plant.

The workshop scheduled for the next 5 days will also explain the status of NPP in Indonesia that represented by BATAN and continued with the status and development of advance reactors in Canada, SMART in Korea and how to review their safety evaluation reports. [P2STIBN / Zulfiandri / BHKK / IS ]
