Technical Guidance on Licensing for Non-Destructive Testing and Gauging
Kembali 03 September 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 22 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) held a technical guidance session on licensing for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Gauging in Serang, Banten, on September 3, 2025. The event, themed "Enhancing Radiation Safety and Security Culture in Radioactive Material Utilization Activities," was attended by 80 business operators and 20 scrap metal collectors.
Attendees included the Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin; the Regional Secretary of Serang Regency, Zaldi Duhana; the Expert Staff to the Regent of Serang, Sugi Hardono; the Head of the Serang Regency Manpower and Transmigration Agency, Diana Ardhianty Utami; the Acting Head of the Serang Regency Environmental Agency (DLH), Yadi Priyadi Rochdian; the Director of Licensing for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR), Asep Saefulloh Hermawan; and the Director of Technical Supports and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness (DKKN), Yudi Pramono.
The event was opened by the Director of DPFRZR, who stated that the activity aimed to provide information and raise awareness regarding the enhancement of radiation safety culture. "I hope there will be further discussion on oversight and the improvement of safety and security culture in the utilization of nuclear energy," he said.
Subsequently, the Regional Secretary of Serang Regency, Zaldi Duhana, expressed his appreciation for BAPETEN's presence. He noted the importance of providing the local government with information regarding radioactive materials, particularly concerning their use in industry and waste management.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection explained that BAPETEN was present in the Serang area to conduct outreach regarding the oversight of nuclear energy utilization. He then proceeded with a presentation titled "Building Nuclear Safety and Security in Non-Nuclear Facilities."
The event continued with talks from three BAPETEN speakers: "Radiation Safety in the Use of Ionizing Radiation Sources in the Health, Industrial, and Research Sectors" by Radiation Supervisor Grace Esterina; "Ionizing Radiation Sources" by Radiation Supervisor Sugiyanto; and "Licensing for the Utilization of Nuclear Energy under Government Regulation Number 28 of 2025" by Radiation Supervisor Kristyo Rumboko.
Besides providing technical advice, BAPETEN also worked with the Serang Regency Government on dealing with a Cesium-137 contamination incident found in the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate (KIM).
It is expected that this activity will raise stakeholder awareness regarding the safety and security of nuclear energy utilization. [BHKK/Da/AQ/Translator: GP]
