Located in Denpasar, August 24, 2022 Bapeten in collaboration with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Udayana University (Unud) was held the 2022 Nuclear Safety Seminar or commonly abbreviated as SKN 2022. This event is means to enrich knowledge, exchange and information dissemination, accommodating input from scientists/experts and nuclear safety technology activists.

In SKN 2022, the virtual keynote speakers were the Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Alue Dohong; Anak Agung Ngurah Gunawan from FMIPA Udayana University, Mr. David Bennett and Mr. Armin Lagumdzija virtually, as Waste Safety Specialists from the Division of Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety Department of Nuclear Safety and Security International Energy Atomic Energy (IAEA).

In his remarks, Plt Chairman of BAPETEN, Sugeng Sumbarjo stated that to welcome the upcoming G20 2022 Summit in Bali, where the big theme is regarding the energy transition and in line with greater government attention to issues of clean energy transition and radioactive waste management, BAPETEN raised the theme in SKN 2022 "The Role of Nuclear Monitoring in Green Energy Transition and Radioactive Waste Management.".

Alue Dohong also said in his keynote speech that it is important to encourage the use of green energy in order to achieve Net Zero Emission by 2060. "Green energy is energy that comes from nature not fossil energy, this energy can reduce the greenhouse effect and is more sustainable," he added.

As a representative of Unud, Anak Agung welcomed the arrival of Bapeten and hoped that there would be mutually beneficial cooperation between the university and the students of FMIPA Udayana University.

This SKN 2022 activity is expected to become an embryo for the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM)) within the Physics Study Program FMIPA UNUD, which is currently developing a medical physics expertise program.

Overall, of the 91 papers were selected for SKN 2022, there were 12 groups of topics that emerged, namely nuclear regulations, machine learning and big data processing, nuclear physics, radiation safety in medical, industrial, nuclear installations and nuclear materials, radioactive waste management, environment, NORM and TENORM, cyber security, nuclear emergency preparedness and response, and nuclear security.

In the series of activities, a press conference was also held which was attended by as many as 20 media crews to convey to the public about the purpose of holding SKN 2022. (BHKK/DA/CD)
