The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) is holding IAEA-sponsored training courses on Computer Security for Nuclear Security (IAEA Nuclear Security Series No. 42 G) and Engineering Computer Security for Nuclear Facilities (IAEA Nuclear Security Series No. 17 T), which can serve as a reference for member states in developing regulations to support computer security systems in the nuclear power sector, at the BAPETEN Office in Jakarta from February 24 to 28, 2025.

The objective of the National Training Course on Computer Security in Facilities for Strengthening Nuclear Security is to provide an in-depth understanding of the concepts and principles of computer security for nuclear security, familiarizing participants with the key elements of IAEA Nuclear Security Series No. 17 T and No. 17 T. 42-G, which serves as a comprehensive guide for establishing effective security measures for computer security in nuclear facilities, facilitates knowledge sharing and networking among computer security professionals for nuclear security and empowers participants to develop and implement computer security measures within their respective national institutions in accordance with international standards and best practices. Twenty-five participants from BAPETEN, IT PLN, BRIN, and BIN attended the event.

The event was attended by Ryan Beeby from Finland, also representing the IAEA; Yannick Reboul from France; Jeong-Ho Lee from KINAC, South Korea; and Najat Bahije from Agence Marocaine de Sûreté et de Sécurité Nucléaires et Radiologiques, Morocco. In his opening remarks, Ahmad Ciptadi Syuryavin, Head of the BAPETEN Education and Training Division (BDL), stated, "The organization of this event demonstrates our core commitment to further strengthening the security of nuclear and other radioactive materials. In doing so, we can assure the public that we have adequately met our national nuclear security objectives, namely, to protect people, property, communities, and the environment from the harmful consequences of nuclear security incidents."

Following the remarks, the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, Sugeng Sumbarjo, stated, "Computer security is crucial to nuclear security. Nuclear facilities rely on a combination of computer-based and conventional systems to control and monitor their operations. Consequently, these systems are also vulnerable to cyberattacks. Therefore, given the high security standards established for nuclear security within the facilities, computer security has become a critical issue that must be addressed."
