Inspection Activities in the Yogyakarta, West Java, Central Java, and Jakarta-Bekasi Areas

Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Directorate of Inspection of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DIFRZR), held inspection activities at several radiation facilities in the Yogyakarta, West Java, Central Java, and Jakarta-Bekasi areas, which were carried out on March 4–8, 2024.

The Yogyakarta team inspector was led by Main Inspector Zainal Arifin as Deputy of Licensing and Inspection, along with team members Sumedi and Roy Candra.The West Java team was led by Main Inspector Asep Saefulloh as Director of Inspection of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials, with team members Samsu Riza and Sarwondo.The Central Java team was led by Main Inspector Leily Savitri with team members Bambang Riyono and Sudradjat, while the Jakarta-Bekasi team was led by Inspector Werdi Putra Daeng Beta with team members Iis Minarti and Widiyastuti.

The purpose of carrying out inspections on the use of nuclear energy is to comply with licensing requirements and statutory regulations in the field of nuclear safety.

Inspection activities in the Yogyakarta area include research and industrial facilities with a total of 5 agencies using gauging, radiography, irradiators, calibration, and photofluorography from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN): the Advanced Characterization Lab (Jl. Jogja-Wonosari), the Indonesian Nuclear Technology Polytechnic (Jl. Babarsari), BRIN: Science and Education Area (KSE) A. Baiquni JalanBabarsari, the Faculty of Agriculture Gajah Mada University (UGM), and PT Tigaraksa Satria Tbk.

Inspection activities in the West Java region include health and industrial facilities with a total of eight agencies using gauging, well logging, photofluorography, and RDI from PTAlexindo Mandala Industrial Zone, PT. Sannohashi Manufacturing Indonesia, the Center for Mineral, Coal, and Geothermal Resources, Biolaborindo Makmur Sejahtera, PTUltrajaya Milk Industry & Trading Company, Tbk., Thermochem Indonesia, and Pribadi Sehat Radiology Clinic and Hermina Pasteur Hospital.

Inspection activities in the Central Java region include health facilities with a total of four agencies using radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, RDI, and calibration from the Public Service Agency (BLU) facilities of Central Hospital (RSUP) dr. Kariadi Semarang, General Hospital (RSU)Ken Saras, Meditama Specialist Clinic, and The College of Health Sciences (STIKES) Widya Husada Semarang.

Inspection activities in the Jakarta-Bekasi area, which were carried out, included health facilities with a total of eight agencies using diagnostic and interventional radio, including RSU. Jagakarsa, Regional Hospital (RSUD) Pasar Rebo, RSKDDuren Sawit, RSU. Siloam Asri, Indo Medika International Main Clinic, Amanah Medika Pura Main Clinic, Bakti Keluarga Clinic, and Taman Harapan Baru Mother and Child Hospital.

The scope of inspection checks generally includes seven Safety and Security Indicators (IKK), which include licensing conditions, the availability of human resources, monitoring radiation doses, radiation worker health checks, the availability of safety and security equipment, monitoring work area radiation exposure, and documenting and recording.

It is expected that with this inspection activity, permit holders (business actors) will increase their awareness of the safety and security of the use of radioactive substances and ionizing radiation generators and the formation of a safety culture in facilities that use ionizing radiation.[DIFRZR/DwiCahyadi/BHKK/OR/GP]
