The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Directorate of Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Material (DPIBN), held a discussion of the evaluation results of the Site Evaluation Approval application from PT Thorcon Power Indonesia (TPI) at the BAPETEN Office in Jakarta on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The discussion was led by Director of DPIBN Wiryono, accompanied by the BAPETEN evaluation team. Also in attendance were BAPETEN's Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin; a representative from PT TPI, Kun Chen, as Chief Nuclear Officer; Tagor Malem Sembiring as Nuclear Safety Senior Manager; and their staff.
The opening remarks were made by Wiryono, who stated that BAPETEN had completed the technical evaluation of the Site Evaluation Approval requirements, including the Site Evaluation Program (PET) and Site Evaluation Management System (SMET), and had submitted the Evaluation Results Report (LHE) to PT TPI on March 21, 2025, through the National Nuclear Energy Information System (BALIS). This activity aimed to clarify the evaluation results of the PET and SMET documents as stated in the Environmental Information System (LHE).
The evaluation results, as stated in LHE No. 00010/PI/03/2025 dated March 21, 2025, stated that the required documents submitted by PT TPI were deemed "Not Meeting Requirements." PT TPI was required to make the necessary improvements to meet the technical requirements in accordance with statutory regulations.
Prior to the discussion of the evaluation results, DPIBN symbolically delivered a flyer on complaints and gratuity services to the permit applicant, in this case, PT TPI. The flyer was handed over by the Director of DPIBN to a representative of PT TPI. DPIBN is committed to ensuring that all licensing services within the DPIBN are transparent, accountable, and free from gratuities, corruption, and nepotism. This commitment is to maintain public trust and ensure the safety of the community and the environment.
Through this discussion of the evaluation results, it is expected that a shared understanding of the technical requirements stipulated in the laws and regulations can be achieved, allowing commitments to the evaluation results to be met on target and in accordance with the laws and regulations.
