The BAPETEN Leaders received a visit from the Programme Management Officer (PMO) Technical Cooperation (TC) Project from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Petra Salame, along with a team from the Indonesian National Liaison Officer (NLO) for the IAEA, Totti Tjiptosumirat, at the BAPETEN office on Friday, July 19, 2024.
In this activity, Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo was accompanied by Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti, Head of Bureau of Legal Affairs, Cooperation, and Public Communication Indra Gunawan, and Echelon II staff related to project implementation. This meeting was held in order to review and evaluate the implementation of technical cooperation between Indonesia and the IAEA, particularly the supervisory agency's infrastructure development project.
In this meeting, Sugeng Sumbarjo opened with an introduction of officials from BAPETEN and thanked the arrival of the PMO IAEA TC Project, Petra Salame.
On this occasion, Petra expressed her gratitude for the warm reception at the BAPETEN office. She hopes that this meeting can strengthen the cooperation that has been established for a very long time between Indonesia and the IAEA, especially in efforts to synergize and support related to the development of surveillance infrastructure in Indonesia.
Petra further said that currently the IAEA has several technical cooperation projects in the field of nuclear energy, especially the Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) program, and other programs related to the planned construction of an electron beam machine (EBM) facility at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in 2025. In addition, there is also a health facility acceleration program managed by the Ministry of Health as a counterpart. The entire implementation of this cooperation project will, of course, overlap with BAPETEN's duties as a supervisory body, whose support is very much expected.
"The arrival of the PMO IAEA TC Project is to conduct an in-depth review of the project under the authority of Ms. Petra. Today's meeting will discuss the implementation plan in more detail. Several programs that are the implementation of this cooperation project, including the PLTN program. The review and monitoring of the implementation of this project are intended so that its implementation meets international standards.
