Chairman of BAPETEN Jazi Eko Istiyanto, Director for Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Nuclear Materials Dahlia Cakrawati Sinaga accompanied by several licensing evaluators visited Experimental Power Reactor (EPR) in Serpong, Tangerang Selatan Thursday (3/1/16). The purpose of this visit is to verify geotech drilling and microtremor array recording.
In the opening remarks, Deputy Chairman of BATAN Taswanda Taryo stated that BATAN is very serious to plan EPR development and operations with two funding models, namely G to G soft loan and multi-years fund from government spending.
Meanwhile, Jazi underlined the importance of collaboration among ministries to go for nuclear, including respective works from operating organization and regulatory. Jazi added, “risk is among other things to be informed proportionally to the public. This is our duty as a regulatory body”.
After morning discussion, BAPETEN witnessed drilling on DH-7 hole and data acquisition using microarray method. Geotech drilling is conducted to have a better understanding on site characterization, including liquefaction, slope stability, etc. On the other hand, microtremor array is intended to provide land tremor data and ambient noise to further characterize the site.
It is expected that visitation like this will be a crucial factor to accelerate the evaluation and licensing process within BAPETEN. [BHO/MR/REH]
