The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) attended the inauguration of Indonesia's first CT-Scan Production Facility, pioneered by the extraordinary synergy between GE Healthcare, Kalbe Farma, and Forsta Kalmedic Global, in Bogor on June 2, 2025. Present at the inauguration were Irawati Setiady, CEO of Kalbe Farma Tbk.; Elie Chaillot, President & CEO of GE Healthcare International; Solehan, SP, MM, Director of Machinery and Agricultural Machinery at the Ministry of Industry; Dr. L. Rizka Andalusia, M.Pharm., Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices at the Ministry of Health; and BAPETEN staff, including Zainal Arifin, Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, and Mukhlisin, Director of Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR).

In his remarks, Zainal expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude for this monumental achievement. Today marks a significant milestone for Indonesia, particularly in our efforts to achieve independence in the healthcare and medical technology sectors.

The presence of this domestic production facility not only reduces dependence on imported sophisticated medical devices such as CT scanners but also brings positive multidimensional impacts, including improving the accessibility and quality of healthcare services, strengthening the domestic industry and workforce, and enhancing radiation safety.

CT scanning technology is a vital part of modern healthcare. The use of X-rays in these devices requires careful oversight from design, production, distribution, and even use in medical facilities. Therefore, close collaboration between regulators, industry players, and healthcare professionals is crucial. According to BAPETEN licensing data, the number of X-ray machines in Indonesia is approximately 1,364, including conventional CT scanners and CT angiography.

With domestic production, BAPETEN expected to facilitate coordination and provide technical assistance from the design through production stages, ensuring safety for users and patients.

BAPETEN welcomes the investment and commitment from GE Healthcare and Kalbe/Forsta. This synergy between global and national companies is a clear example of how collaboration can produce significant breakthroughs and provide tangible benefits to society. BAPETEN is committed to continuing to support the development of this industry by ensuring regulations that are adaptive, transparent, and supportive of innovation without compromising safety, Zainal concluded.
