BAPETEN Receives Visit from Bureau Veritas Group Regarding Strengthening Oversight of Nuclear Power Plant Development in Indonesia
Kembali 28 April 2026 | Berita BAPETEN | 57 lihatBAPETEN received a courtesy visit from representatives of the Bureau Veritas (BV) Group and Bureau Veritas Indonesia (BVI) on April 28, 2026, at the BAPETEN Office. The meeting discussed exploring potential collaboration in technical support and exchanging experiences related to the oversight of Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) development in Indonesia.
During the meeting, Bureau Veritas presented its role as a global Technical Support Organization (TSO) with expertise in design review, inspection, and contributions to the development of nuclear regulations. This experience has been gained through involvement in nuclear power plant projects in Finland, France, Turkey, and Egypt.
The discussion also highlighted challenges in harmonizing International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) standards with national regulations, as well as the importance of anticipating critical issues in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology, particularly concerning the procurement of long lead items.
In response, BAPETEN emphasized that support from a TSO is essential, especially in overseeing the construction of Indonesia’s first NPP. Such support is considered crucial for enhancing human resource capacity in nuclear oversight.
BAPETEN also emphasized the importance of thorough planning in the establishment of the TSO to ensure effective regulatory oversight. The exchange of information with BV Group and BVI is expected to provide strategic input in preparing a comprehensive NPP regulatory system in Indonesia. (Zakki Muhammad/DP2IBN/BHKK/Da)
