Kembali 11 September 2024 | Berita BAPETEN

The Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Directorate of Licensing of Nuclear Installation and Material (DPIBN), collaborates and cooperates with the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the discussion of the draft cooperation agreement for the Implementation of Technical Policy and Recommendation Support and Evaluation of Nuclear Installation Site Safety on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency, Bandung.

The BAPETEN team consists of the Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, the Directorate of Nuclear Installation and Material Licensing (DPIBN), the Centre for the Assessment of Nuclear Installation and Material Supervision Systems and Technology (P2STPIBN), and the Bureau of Legal Affairs, Cooperation, and Public Communication (BHKK).

Opening by the Director of DPIBN, who outlined the challenges of extending the Triga 2000 Bandung operating permit and also the challenges of prospective nuclear power plant sites such as in West Kalimantan and Bangka Belitung. One thing that needs to be discussed in this meeting is the identification of the implementation program that will be built, considering that BAPETEN is currently preparing the human resources infrastructure related to site evaluation.

The Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, in his speech, explained the importance of collaboration between BAPETEN and the Geological Agency in relation to the Lembang fault and the safety of the TRIGA 2000 reactor as well as the safety of prospective nuclear power plant sites in Indonesia. It is also necessary to discuss the availability and obtaining of valid and legitimate site aspect data related to the evaluation of nuclear installation permits, considering that in facing the preparation of nuclear power plant construction, the KBLI for nuclear installations is handled by BAPETEN. Therefore, BAPETEN needs to initiate tasks to coordinate, cooperate, and collaborate with PVMBG-Geological Agency.

The Head of P2STPIBN explained that this discussion is very important, especially in relation to the existence of several potential locations for the construction of nuclear installations that require specific site data.

The event continued with a detailed discussion of the cooperation implementation program in the form of thematic investigations and mapping in the field of geological hazard/disaster potential in supporting the preparation of technical recommendations and policies and evaluation of nuclear installation site safety, preparation and exchange of data and information, utilization of facilities and infrastructure, empowerment of expertise/experts, increasing human resource competency, and implementation of joint studies and evaluations of both parties.

From the results of this discussion, PVMBG will coordinate with other centers within the Geological Agency, considering the potential scope of the wide cooperation. Furthermore, a follow-up meeting will be held between BAPETEN and PVMBG either through Zoom media or direct meetings to finalize the draft of this cooperation. [DPIBN/Siwhan/BHKK/CD/Translator: GP]
