2nd FGD: Indonesian-Diagnostic Reference Level (I-DRL) Value Determination Process in 2021

In the framework of the establishment of I-DRL, as a guide for medical practitioners in applying radiation protection optimization to diagnostic patients, on 25 May 2021. BAPETEN continued the 2nd Focus Group Discussion (FGD), on Thursday 6 May 2021.

FGD was opened by the Head of Regulatory Assessment Centre for System and Technology in Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Sources (P2STPFRZR) represented by Health Assessment Coordinator Rusmanto, he said that there are 3 targets in this 2nd FGD :

Uniformity of the terminology from the type and definition of examination that is often an obstacle in a very diverse field because for each type of examination sometimes has a different name. In the future there is expected to be a national irradiation protocol for examination of patients with X-rays.
The age range agreement for the adult, child and infant categories considering that some countries have their own age restrictions according to their country conditions.
Agreed I-DRL values

The event continued with the presentation of 1^st FGD results, a follow-up plan submitted by Health Assessment Coordinator. The event continued with discussions and responses by all participants, who agreed on several points including indicators on general radiography examination using ESAK and INAK terminology, and indicators for examination using CT Scan are CTDI and DLP, I-DRL values agreed to be selected conservatively, the age range of patients used is 15 years old and above, and make operational definitions from each type of examination that appears as I-DRL.

The event was held online and attended by 23 participants representing all stakeholders related to DRL, namely the Ministry of Health, PDSRKI, PERSI, AFISMI, KARS, PARI, PTKMR - BATAN, Poltekkes Jakarta, Poltekkes Semarang, University of Indonesia, Diponegoro University, as well as several representatives of vertical hospitals as CIPTO Mangunkusumo Hospital, Dharmais Cancer Hospital, and Hasan Sadikin Hospital.

FGD was closed by The Head P2STPFRZR Taruniyati Handayani, she said "the next FGD agenda is planned for discussions related to the terminology of the type of examination, the limits of each type of examination such as abdomen, chest, femur and other examinations, identification of important points of I-DRL implementation, and the target of I-DRL review."
