Workshop on Technical Guidelines for Monitoring the Release of Radioactive Materials into Air and Water and Technical Guidelines for Monitoring Radioactivity Levels in the Environment in the Nuclear Energy Utilization
Kembali 08 September 2022 | Berita BAPETENBAPETEN’s Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (P2STPFRZR) held a Workshop on Technical Guidelines for Monitoring the Release of Radioactive Materials into Air and Water in the Utilization of Nuclear Energy and Technical Guidelines for Monitoring Radioactivity Levels in the Environment in the Nuclear Energy Utilization, offline on Thursday, September 8, 2022, in Jakarta.
The technical guidelines that have been prepared and discussed in the workshop are to provide stakeholders with an understanding of implementing processes and systems for monitoring the release of Radioactive Materials into the air for nuclear facilities under normal operating conditions and provide guidance and recommendations regarding the practice of monitoring radioactivity levels in the environment.
The event was opened by the Head of P2STPFRZR Taruniyati Handayani with the Coordinator of the Functional Group for Industrial and Research Studies (KFPIP) Evin Yuliati as Moderator who led the interactive discussion. The presenters were KFPIP-P2STPFRZR Dewanto and Nurhadiansyah and former Middle Radiation Researcher P2STPFRZR Veronica Tuka.
Present from the related Work Units, namely the Functional Group Coordinator and staff from DP2FRZR, DP2IBN, DPFRZR, DPIBN, DPFRZR and DIIBN. Meanwhile, the stakeholders are from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), representatives from each related organization, namely the Nuclear Waste Treatment Installation (IPLN), the RSG-GAS Installation, the Nuclear Materials Installation (IBBN), the Radioisotope and Radiopharmaceutical Installation (IPRR) Nuclear Fuel Cycle Technology Research Center and Radioactive Waste.
Representatives invited from the stakeholders of the hospital's nuclear medicine installation, namely RSUPN Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Directorate of Laboratory Management, Research Facilities, and the Science and Technology Area, Directorate of Medical, Nursing and Support Services Division of Nuclear Medicine, Installation of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Services (IPRKN) and Directorate of Organizational Planning and General Installation of Environmental Health and K3 Hospitals, as well as from PT. Industri Nuklir Indonesia (INUKI) also complied with the workshop invitation.
This workshop aims is to provide a common understanding regarding the implementation of BAPETEN’s Chairman Regulation No. 7/2013 on Limit Values of Environmental Radioactivity in conjunction with BAPETEN’s Chairman Regulation No. 7/2017 on Amendments to BAPETEN’s Chairman Regulation No. 7/2013 among stakeholders both from the internal side of BAPETEN namely Evaluators, Technical Work Units and Nuclear Safety Inspector as well as from the external side, namely the Permit Holder. A workshop summary from the discussion of Technical Guidelines for Monitoring the Release of Radioactive Materials into Air and Water in the Nuclear Energy Utilization & Technical Guidelines for Monitoring the Level of Radioactivity in the Environment in the Nuclear Energy Utilization are:
1. Monitoring activities for environmental releases and radioactivity is a mandate for public accountability under normal conditions;
2. Operational Terminology, Continuous Monitoring and Dominant Radionuclides will be refined;
3. A multilevel approach is applied by the facility and will be outlined in an analysis document that will be submitted to BAPETEN (as input for related documents/permits);
4. The flow chart for monitoring releases to air and water and radioactivity level monitoring contained in the guidelines is used by the facility as a basis for implementing activities and will be refined;
5. NBRL for the area has been determined and quota analysis will be added for each facility;
6. Completion of the Guidelines will refer to related supporting documents (for example reg. guide 4.16 and Arpansa document);
7. Collaboration with related agencies will be carried out to improve regulations/guidelines. (P2STPFRZR/Putri/BHKK/Bams/Da/RA)
