Verification of Nuclear Medicine License at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, Tangerang City, and RS Mitra Plumbon, Cirebon Regency
Kembali 26 Februari 2025 | Berita BAPETENNuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Directorate of Licensing for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR), conducted a series of field verification activities for Nuclear Medicine Facilities at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, Tangerang City, Banten, on February 19-21, 2025, and at RS Mitra Plumbon, Cirebon Regency, on February 25-26, 2025. This activity aims to verify the operational license of in vivo diagnostic nuclear medicine facilities using PET CT, ensuring that the radiation shielding building design calculations, main and supporting equipment, human resources, and procedures comply with radiation safety requirements are safe for workers, patients, the public, and the environment.
The BAPETEN inspection team conducting verification at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri consisted of Iin Indartati as the Activity Manager of the Health Facility Licensing Function Group (DPFRZR) BAPETEN, with members Yaya Umaya and Lilis Misnawati. Meanwhile, the inspection team at RS Mitra Plumbon was led by Iin Indartati, with members Toni Wahyu Pamungkas and Dwi Angestiningsih.
The verification at Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri was conducted on the in vivo diagnostic nuclear medicine facility using a GE PET CT machine, Omni Legend type, while at RS Mitra Plumbon Cirebon, it used a GE PET CT machine, Discovery IQ type, with both hospitals utilizing the F-18-FDG radiopharmaceutical.
The onsite inspection scope includes:
- Document review and technical compliance of the constructed facility design, including the adequacy of radiation shielding thickness.
- Examination of several key rooms, such as:
- Radionuclide/Radiopharmaceutical Preparation, Counting, and Storage Room equipped with a Fume Hood that meets standards.
- Radiopharmaceutical Administration Room for patients.
- Patient Imaging Room.
- Patient Room after Radiopharmaceutical Administration.
- Decontamination Room.
- Temporary Radioactive Waste Storage and Pre-Disposal Processing Room.
- Patient Waiting Room after Radiopharmaceutical Administration.
- Dedicated Patient Toilet after Radiopharmaceutical Administration.
Additionally, the team also inspected the performance of main and supporting equipment, measured radiation exposure, reviewed patient flow, evaluated personnel competency in operating PET CT, and verified radiation protection equipment.
As a result of the verification, the hospital expressed its commitment to address the findings presented by the BAPETEN team within the specified timeframe. The verification process ran smoothly thanks to the support and openness of the hospital, which welcomed the process positively. Any deficiencies found were considered as input and technical recommendations to improve compliance with radiation safety in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
Mandaya Royal Hospital Puri, as part of the development of its Integrated Cancer Center, has introduced PET CT Scan technology, offering significant benefits for patients and oncologists. With faster and more accurate cancer imaging, early diagnosis becomes possible, increasing the chances of successful treatment and patient recovery.
Meanwhile, the enhancement of nuclear medicine services at RS Mitra Plumbon through the addition of PET CT Scan provides easier access for cancer patients in Cirebon Regency and surrounding areas. This service is expected to reduce the need for referrals to Bandung or Jakarta, thereby lowering costs and accelerating medical treatment. (DPFRZR/Dwiangesti/BHKK/Translator: NA)
