Technical Guidance on the Nuclear Census of Ionizing Radiation Source in West Nusa Tenggara
Kembali 08 Oktober 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 3 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) conducted a technical guidance on the nuclear census of ionizing radiation sources in West Nusa Tenggara on October 7–8, 2025, targeted for healthcare facilities in the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) regions. The activity began with an audience between the Secretary of the NTB Provincial Health Office, Edi Ramlan, and the Director of Inspection for Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DIFRZR), Zulkarnain, accompanied by Senior Radiation Supervisor Sumedi.
In his remarks, Edi stated that the NTB Provincial Health Office fully supports initiatives carried out by the central government, as these efforts will contribute to improving the quality of radiology equipment services. He further expressed the leadership’s hope that this technical guidance will facilitate healthcare facilities that are facing challenges and have been unable to renew their licenses.
Zulkarnain then explained that the objective of the Ionizing Radiation Source (SRP or Sumber Radiasi Pengion) census is to optimize BAPETEN’s regulatory oversight, as there are numerous inconsistencies between online data and its actual condition. Several factors may contribute to this, including SRP data that has not been deactivated and even radiation sources that have not yet been licensed. He added that without public participation, regulatory supervision cannot function effectively, as supervision is not carried out solely by the regulatory body but also by the community. The census also serves as a mechanism to facilitate future licensing and inspection processes.
Prior to the technical guidance, participants were given an explanation of the 2025 Nuclear Energy Census by Muhammad Rizki Ridhallahi, the First Level - Radiation Supervisor. From this explanation, participants were required to explain the condition and current status of the SRP at the facility so that BAPETEN validators could update the latest data at the facility. Additionally, data may be considered invalid and cannot be used for licensing applications if this is not fulfilled, so the SRP data will be deactivated.
On the second day, Sumedi advised participants to utilize the opportunity to consult directly with the validators who visited the area to effectively resolve any issues. The technical guidance in NTB resulted in 57 healthcare facilities successfully validating the nuclear census. It is hoped that the technical guidance will foster orderly administration while ensuring the safety of patients, workers, and the environment. (Ra/BHKK)
