Public Consultation on the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) to Replace Government Regulation No. 61 of 2013 on Radioactive Waste Management
Kembali 29 Oktober 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 20 lihatBAPETEN held a Public Consultation on the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) to Replace Government Regulation No. 61 of 2013 on Radioactive Waste Management in Makassar on 29 October 2025. The public consultation aimed to gather information, inputs, feedback, and aspirations from all relevant stakeholders to enrich the content of the regulation.
Stakeholders attending the event included representatives from license holders in the health and industrial sectors, BRIN, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, BPOM, local governments, academics, and professional associations. The preparation of the Draft Government Regulation (RPP) to replace Government Regulation No. 61 of 2013 commenced in the 2025 Fiscal Year through the drafting of an urgency paper and submission for inclusion in the 2026 National Legislation Program.
In his opening remarks, the Director of the Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR) at BAPETEN, Mukhlisin, stated that the management of radioactive waste is a critical aspect of the radioactive materials utilization cycle to ensure the safety, health, and security of workers, the public, and environmental sustainability. “Radioactive waste management is regulated under the Nuclear Energy Law, which is currently undergoing amendment, and is further detailed in Government Regulation No. 61 of 2013 on Radioactive Waste Management,” he said.
He noted that Indonesia is currently facing challenges and issues related to the contamination of radioactive materials in several traded commodities, which are closely linked to radioactive waste management. Therefore, he emphasized that Government Regulation No. 61 of 2013, which has been in effect for 12 years, requires updating to reflect changes in international standards, address various field challenges, and align with other existing laws and regulations.
The event continued with a presentation titled “Radioactive Waste Regulatory Policy” by DP2FRZR Director Mukhlisin, and an overview of the key changes in the Draft Government Regulation (DGR) by BAPETEN Junior Radiation Inspector Vatimah Zahrawati. During the discussion and Q&A session, several participants provided input on radioactive waste management and its future supervision mechanisms.
Overall, the participants were highly enthusiastic in providing suggestions and aspirations for the formulation of the Draft Government Regulation to Replace Government Regulation No. 61 of 2013 on Radioactive Waste Management. The public consultation is expected to contribute to the development of future regulations that are more comprehensive, simple, implementable, and effective.
