Kembali 08 September 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 12 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), is hosting the National Workshop on Regulatory Control of Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Facilities in Jakarta on September 8, 2025. The event, which runs until September 12, 2025, is attended by 25 participants from BAPETEN, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), AFISMI, and various hospitals across Indonesia.
Attendees included Asep Saefulloh Hermawan, Director of Licensing of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DPFRZR); Ahmad Ciptadi Syuryavin, Head of the Education and Training Division (BDL); and three international experts: Ronald Enrique Pacheco Jimenez (IAEA), Arturo Perez-Mulas (Spanish Nuclear Safety Council/CSN), and Juan Castro Novais (Quirónsalud Madrid University Hospital). The workshop aims to enhance human resource competence in reviewing and assessing PBT safety.
The event opened with remarks from Ronald Enrique Pacheco Jimenez, who noted that PBT represents a new technology for member states. "New technology presents a challenge for us; hopefully, through this workshop, we can exchange information and experiences. Congratulations to the participants attending this event," he added.
Ahmad Ciptadi Syuryavin outlined his responsibilities as the Head of BDL BAPETEN, noting that the center is responsible for enhancing employee competence to adapt to changes. He also urged participants to actively engage and fully utilize this opportunity.
Subsequently, Asep Saefulloh Hermawan officially opened the event. He expressed his gratitude to the IAEA for its assistance in organizing the workshop. "In the future, many facilities will possess PBT capabilities; therefore, I hope BAPETEN, as the regulatory body, possesses the necessary competence to carry out its duties in overseeing the use of nuclear energy in Indonesia," he added.
The event continued with a presentation titled "IAEA’s Role in Supporting Proton Therapy" by Ronald Enrique Pacheco Jimenez. The event continued with a presentation on plans for establishing a PBT (Proton Beam Therapy) unit, delivered by Dwi Bondan Panular from RDPAD Gatot Soebroto and Annisa Rahma Fauzia from Eka Hospital BSD.
It is expected that this event will enable participants to understand the operation of PBT radiotherapy equipment and the safety requirements for PBT facilities, in accordance with international standards and best practices. Furthermore, participants are expected to gain knowledge regarding PBT installation, including spatial or bunker requirements and radiation shielding, thereby enhancing their competence to support the safe and effective operation of PBT facilities.
