On 22 October 2024, field verification activities were carried out at the NORM storage site of PT MGR located in the Jelitik Industrial Area, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency. This verification was carried out as a follow-up to the consultation carried out regarding the tin processing and refining business activities that produce slag at PT MGR. The verification team was led by Wiryono and received by the President Director, Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Manager, radiation protection officers, and other PT MGR staff.

PT MGR expressed their gratitude for the verification carried out by the BAPETEN team. The lead of the verification team, Wiryono, during the entry meeting, conveyed the purpose of the verification activity, which was then continued with a presentation of material related to regulations, requirements for submitting NORM storage permits, and the use of Balis (BAPETEN Licensing and Inspection System) in its submission by the licensing evaluator.

The verification activity was continued with a field inspection of the NORM storage location and PT MGR production area. The results of the field verification showed that, in general, PT MGR had provided adequate NORM storage locations, radiation detection and protection equipment, and radiation protection officers had work permits (Surat Izin Bekerja or SIB). Based on the verification carried out, PT MGR is committed to continuing the application for NORM storage permits.

The next day, on October 23, 2024, coordination of NORM supervision was carried out by visiting the Bangka Belitung Provincial DLHK located in the Bangka Belitung Provincial Governor's Office Complex.

On this occasion, the BAPETEN team was received by the Head of the Environmental Control Division of the Bangka Belitung Provincial DLHK, Mega Oktarian, and related staff. This coordination aims to improve coordination between BAPETEN and related agencies for NORM supervision in Bangka Belitung Province. One of the things discussed was the PROPER assessment (Company Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management) conducted by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and its relation to NORM storage in the smelter industry. In the coordination carried out, input was obtained that it was necessary to improve coordination and collaboration on NORM supervision in Bangka Belitung Province between the Bangka Belitung Province DLHK and BAPETEN.

In between the existing activities, an audience was also held with a member of the Bangka Belitung Provincial DPRD (Regional House of Representatives), Me Hoa, regarding NORM supervision and the planned construction of a Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) in Bangka Belitung Province.
