BAPETEN’s Role in Health Screenings and Residential Checks at the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate
Kembali 16 September 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 11 lihatTo ensure the safety of the public and workers regarding potential contamination by the radioactive substance Cesium-137 (Cs-137) at the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) has been participating in health screenings for the community at the Cikande Community Health Center (Puskesmas) since September 10, 2025. These screenings aim to detect the presence of radioactive contamination in individuals, particularly those who have worked at the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate.
For this initiative, BAPETEN’s Emergency Response Team (Satuan Tanggap Darurat, or STD) deployed directly to conduct the health checks. Measurements of dose rates and contamination levels. The detection equipment was positioned 10 cm from the skin's surface to measure dose rates and contamination levels for each individual. for each individual by positioning the detection equipment 10 cm from the skin's surface. Meanwhile, the team from the Cikande Puskesmas collected blood samples and provided consultations for anyone exhibiting symptoms of Cs-137 contamination. Through these free health screenings, it is expected that workers and community members will gain certainty regarding their health status and be able to carry on their normal activities.
Additionally, on September 16, 2025, BAPETEN’s STD team conducted contamination checks at several residents' homes in the vicinity of the industrial estate. This measure was taken to ensure that no radioactive contamination had been carried into the workers' homes. During this process, the STD team performed thorough inspections inside the homes and monitored the surrounding outdoor areas.
BAPETEN has also secured all items confirmed to be contaminated with radioactive materials to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents and their families. [BHKK/Ra/Da/ Translator: GP]
