As an initial step in handling the contaminated material, BAPETEN carried out preparations for the relocation of radioactive-contaminated metal materials from a scrap metal collection site on September 18, 2025.

BAPETEN’s Emergency Response Team (Satuan Tanggap Darurat, or STD), together with personnel from the Cikande Sector Police, measured the volume of contaminated material at the scrap metal collection site; measured radiation exposure levels to establish the "hot zone," safety parameters, and safety perimeters; and designated an area for sorting the contaminated material.

The activities continued with radiation exposure measurements at PT PMT, designated as the temporary storage site for the contaminated material, to map the area and determine radiation level zones. The team also collected air samples to assess airborne contamination levels within the PT PMT work area, which is slated to serve as the storage site for the materials to be relocated.

Prior to this, government agencies, specifically BAPETEN, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) and National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), held a series of coordination meetings regarding the handling of contaminated material at the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate (KIM). These meetings aimed to ensure that every handling step was precisely targeted and to guarantee the safety of handling personnel and the public, as well as the protection of the environment.
