BAPETEN Meeting with Officials from the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency to Improve Coordination and Supervision of Nuclear Power Plant Development in Indonesia
Kembali 15 April 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 7 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) held a meeting with the high-level executives of the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency of the Republic of Indonesia at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Kementerian ATR/BPN) office in Jakarta on April 15, 2025.
This informal meeting aimed to strengthen coordination in determining the Suitability of Spatial Utilization Activities (KKPR) as one of the basic requirements under Government Regulation Number 5 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Risk-Based Business Licensing, specifically to support the ease of business establishment in the nuclear power sector.
The BAPETEN delegation was led by the Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin, accompanied by the Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti, the Director of Licensing of Nuclear Installations and Materials, Wiryono, and the Executive Radiation Supervisor (Pengawas Radiasi Utama), Sri Budi Utami. BAPETEN's presence was welcomed by Gabriel Triwibawa, the high-level executive in spatial planning.
During the meeting, Zainal emphasized the need for coordination between stakeholders regarding the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) in addressing the planned construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP or PLTN).
In response, Gabriel emphasized the Ministry of ATR/BPN's full support for the development of renewable energy, including nuclear energy, and noted that the National Spatial Plan (RTRW) is currently being revised. He added that the National Spatial Plan is prepared by the Ministry of ATR/BPN, while provincial and regional spatial plans are prepared by regional governments and must be synchronized with National Spatial Plan policies.
The BAPETEN Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment added that determining prospective nuclear power plant sites is the initial stage in the site evaluation to ensure the suitability of the location from potential external hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis.
As a result of this meeting, both parties agreed to continue improving coordination and communication through intensive discussions regarding the National Spatial Plan to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of business licensing services in the nuclear power sector.
