The meeting was held virtually on Thursday, March 5, 2026. This activity represents a continuation of the previous harmonization process aimed at refining the substance and aligning regulations on nuclear emergency preparedness and response with current policy developments, international safety standards, and nuclear regulatory needs at present. The harmonization meeting was attended by various work units within BAPETEN, as well as representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and Regional Disaster Management Agencies (BPBD).
During the meeting, various inputs and refinements to the provisions outlined in the draft regulation were discussed to ensure regulatory clarity, consistency with the existing legislative framework, and alignment with international safety standards established by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The discussion also covered improvements to technical provisions related to emergency preparedness and response, clarification of inter agency coordination mechanisms, as well as editorial revisions and consistency of terminology within both the main body and annexes of the draft regulation.
This draft regulation is expected to provide significant benefits, including strengthening the framework for nuclear emergency preparedness and response in Indonesia, enhancing inter agency coordination in managing nuclear emergencies, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, and improving the protection of workers, the public, and the environment from potential nuclear emergency impacts. Through this continued harmonization process, the draft regulation is expected to become more comprehensive and well-prepared for the subsequent stages of formal enactment. [DP2IBN/BHKK/GP]
