BAPETEN Audience with Bappelitbangda Central Bangka regarding Nuclear Power Plant

BAPETEN conducted an audience with the Regional Development Planning and Research Agency (Bappelitbangda) of Central Bangka Regency on Friday, May 31, 2024. This activity was carried out in order to discuss the plan to build a nuclear power plant (PLTN) on Gelasa Island, Central Bangka.

The event was opened by the Head of Bappelitbangda Central Bangka, Joko Triadhi, who said that this audience aimed to exchange information regarding the plan to build the PLTN. "For that, on this occasion we invite all related regional apparatuses so that BAPETEN can dig up as much information as possible regarding Central Bangka," he added.

He also hopes that this development can have a positive impact on the people of Central Bangka and can be a trigger for even better development.

Meanwhile, Acting Director of Regulation of Nuclear Material Installation and Materials (DP2IBN) BAPETEN Nur Syamsi Syam, in her remarks, said the importance of the pre-licensing stage, which is currently being carried out by PT ThorCon in its plan to build a nuclear power plant in Central Bangka. "Our presence here is to gather information from stakeholders, especially UPDs, so that they can provide information about site evaluation, in this case Gelasa Island," he said.

Representative of Lubuk Besar District, Erwin, who was also present at the audience, hoped that the plan to build a nuclear power plant would not impact the activities of the surrounding community, especially fishermen.

In his presentation, BAPETEN Middle Level - Radiation Supervisor (Pengawas Radiasi Madya) Farid Noor Jusuf conveyed the provisions for evaluating the safety of nuclear installations. He emphasized various aspects of the site that must be evaluated to obtain a permit, including aspects of seismicity, volcanic activity, geotechnics, hydrology, and meteorology, as well as external events due to human actions.

"Some things that need to be discussed include the safe distance between the population and industrial activities of the nuclear power plant," explained Farid.

This activity was also attended by Assistant I, Assistant II, and Assistant III of the Regent of Central Bangka and other related agencies, namely the Central Bangka National Regional Development Agency (BPBD), the Central Bangka Environmental Service, the Regional Asset Financial Management Agency (BPKAD), the Regional Inspectorate, the Marine and Fisheries Service, and the Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Service.
