Virtual Regional Workshop On Civil Liability For Nuclear Damage For ASEAN Plus Three
Kembali 29 Juni 2021 | Berita BAPETENBapeten in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held a Virtual Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage for ASEAN Plus Three Workshop on 29 June 29 – 1 July 2020 in Serpong, South Tangerang.
The workshop was opened by Chairman of Bapeten Jazi Eko Istiyanto, he was conveyed "the purpose of this event is to provide information on international legal instruments on nuclear responsibility adopted under the auspices of the IAEA, focusing on the 1997 Convention on Additional Compensation for Nuclear Damages"
"In addition, the event is to provide advice on the development of the implementation of the law, and to provide a forum where participants can exchange information about possible difficulties, concerns and issues that the country may face internationally," he added.
The event continued with remarks from IAEA representative Wolfram Tonhauser, "that the regulatory body should prepare an independent and international standard legal system, to assist authorities in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes."
Then, as a representative of ASEANTOM Zubaidah Mahmud, it was conveyed that the existence of responsive guidelines and laws will strengthen regional cooperation in Southeast Asia. Some examples of activities include workshops and seminars to promote the use of nuclear energy that prioritizes safety, security, and safeguards.
On the first day of this event began with material on introduction to the international liability regime which discussed the "Overview of the International Nuclear Liability for Nuclear Damage". Continue with the discussion of "The Basic Principles of the International Nuclear Liability Regime". And ended with the discussion "The Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage".
The workshop was attended by several K/L , namely BATAN, BRIN, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Indonesia Power, ASEAN Center of Energy and private parties from several IAEA member countries. [BHKK/OR/RA]
