The IAEA Physical Inventory Verification Activities in Indonesia

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) conducted a Physical Inventory Verification (PIV) in Indonesia from June 16 to 23, 2025. The IAEA conducted the PIV to ensure there was no misuse of nuclear material for peaceful purposes. This activity was carried out in conjunction with the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) inspection team.
The IAEA inspection was carried out by two IAEA inspectors, Dennis Caron and Regine Schuler. This year, the IAEA conducted inspections at several nuclear installations in Indonesia, including the G.A. Siwabessy Multipurpose Reactor, the Radiometallurgy Installation, and the Research Reactor Fuel Element Production Installation located in the B.J. Habibie Science and Technology Area (KST), National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Serpong, from June 16 to June 23. June 19, 2025, followed by a follow-up at the TRIGA Reactor located in the Tamansari Joint Working Area (KKB), BRIN, Bandung, on June 23, 2025.
In addition to the PIV, the IAEA also held an Annual Safeguards Review Meeting at the BAPETEN office on June 20, 2025. This meeting discussed safeguards implementation in Indonesia over the past year and included technical discussions regarding several safeguards to be implemented in Indonesia.
