The Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO) Director General Visited BAPETEN

On April 30, 2024, at building A BAPETEN, Bapeten was visited by Dr. Geoffrey Shaw, the Director General of the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO), who was accompanied by Sophie James, the ASNO Safeguards Officer, and Kirby Taylor, the Second Secretary (Political) of the Australian Embassy.
The visit was welcomed by Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, Sugeng Sumbarjo, Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti, Director of Nuclear Installation and Material Inspection, Lukman Hakim, Director of Nuclear Installation and Material Licensing Wiryono, as well as several related senior staff.
Plans for cooperation between ASNO and Bapeten were discussed during this visit. Acting Chairman of BAPETEN gave many suggestions for collaboration plans, such as capacity building for the advancement of Strategic Trade Management (STM), oversight of uranium mining, and safeguarding training pertaining to decommissioning.
It is hoped that this cooperation plan can increase the synergy between BAPETEN and ASNO as well as increase the capacity of nuclear security guard supervision carried out between the two parties. (DIIBN/Setiawan/BHKK/Bams/GP).
