The Agreement of BAPETEN and BATAN on Cooperation in the framework of "Incident Reporting System for Research Reactors"
Kembali 27 Mei 2021 | Berita BAPETENRegulatory Assessment Centre for System and Technology in Nuclear Installation and Materials (P2STPIBN) and Accelerator Science and Technology Centre (PSTA) BATAN together strive to realize a concern and participation to synergize in contributing to the advancement of nuclear science and technology that give benefit to nation.
Departing from this intention, the two sides agreed to sign a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) on Deepening the System and Operation of Kartini Reactors in the framework of Incident Reporting System for Research Reactors (IRSRR) on Thursday (27/5) in Yogyakarta Nuclear Area.
PKS text that signed by P2STPIBN Head Yudi Pramono and Plt.Head of PSTA BATAN Syarip is one of the support for the IAEA IRSRR program. Through this network-based system, member states as contributors can share experiences and learnings in the operation of research reactors with the international nuclear community to avoid nuclear accidents and improve the safety of nuclear installations.
The scopes of this cooperation is the utilization of Internet Reactor Laboratory (IRL) facilities to provide a deeper understanding of the operation of Kartini reactors in real-time remotely. The cooperation program is structured to be implemented for two years in accordance with the period of validity of cooperation.
Syarip stated that as the Implementing Agency, BATAN has facilities important assets for the application of nuclear technology in Indonesia. Syarip added, several universities havecooperated in the utilization of the IRL facility including UIN Malang, NU Blitar University, Tanjungpura University, and the University of Sharjah UEA.
Head of Legal, Cooperation, and Public Communication Bureau (BHKK) Indra Gunawan who also attended the signing of the PKS stated that the cooperation between BAPETEN and BATAN was a challenge related to the relationship between the two, one as a Supervisory Agency and the other as an Implementing Agency. But recognizing the need for synergy between the two as government agencies, Indra strongly supports the cooperation plans of BAPETEN and BATAN in launching the development of nuclear technology in Indonesia.
Furthermore, Yudi expressed his happiness that this cooperation had been formulated. He mentioned that he had heard many positive responses to IRL, which in his view could help BAPETEN so that the effectiveness of supervision and safety assurance could be maintained. Especially in the current pandemic situation, where we have to avoid continuous physical interaction, but the safety of nuclear installations can also remain guaranteed. (BHKK/Yasser/Bams/OR/RA)
