Supervisory Outreach for the Planning of Nuclear Energy Utilization Oversight Program in Jember, East Java
Kembali 10 Oktober 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 12 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), in collaboration with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), conducted a Supervisory Outreach for the Planning of Nuclear Energy Utilization Oversight Program in Jember on Friday, 10 October 2025. The purpose of this activity was to convey information regarding the institutional role and importance of BAPETEN in overseeing the utilization of nuclear energy in Indonesia. The outreach was attended by the Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment of BAPETEN, Haendra Subekti, and the Deputy Chairperson of Commission XII of the DPR RI, Bambang Haryadi.
This Supervisory Outreach carried the theme “Supervisory Service for the Planning of Nuclear Energy Utilization Oversight Programs in Indonesia.” The event was attended by 150 participants from various community groups in Jember.
The event opened with remarks from Hanan Kukuh, a member of the Jember District Legislative Council, who stated that nuclear technology represents a future alternative energy source for Indonesia. Hanan also expressed his hope that BAPETEN would help educate the public so they would not be opposed to nuclear technology.The event continued with remarks from Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti, who explained the agency’s duties and functions. He emphasized that BAPETEN must ensure that the utilization of nuclear energy complies with international safety and security standards through regulation and inspection. Continuous public outreach is essential as part of community and stakeholder engagement. He also encouraged the public to contact BAPETEN if they encounter potential radiation hazards or suspicious equipment or facilities.
The event then continued with remarks from Bambang Haryadi, Deputy Chairperson of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), who stated that the activity is part of efforts to outreach institutional programs and activities to the public. He emphasized that the government is committed to optimizing the use of nuclear technology, not only in the health sector but also to meet energy needs. Furthermore, Bambang also expressed his expectation that BAPETEN can provide the public with understanding and assurance that nuclear technology can be utilized as a safe, reliable, and potentially more affordable energy source.
The event continued with a presentation by Achmad Bussamah, Head of BAPETEN’s Head of Internal Auditors, entitled “Planning of Nuclear Energy Utilization Oversight Programs in Indonesia.” One of the key objectives of the presentation was to ensure that nuclear energy utilization is strictly for peaceful purposes and the welfare of the Indonesian people. “We will ensure that the use of nuclear energy in Indonesia does not pose any danger to workers, the public, or the environment,” he emphasized.
The event concluded with a discussion and question-and-answer session between the speakers and the participants. It is aimed that through this activity, the public will gain a better understanding of the benefits, impacts, and oversight of nuclear technology, enabling them to accept and utilize it positively.
