Public Consultation on BAPETEN Regulation Draft In Lieu of BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009 on Radiation Safety in the Use of Radioactive Materials and X-Ray Machines for Gauging Equipment

The Directorate of Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR) held a public consultation on draft BAPETEN Regulation in lieu of BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009 on Radiation Safety in the Use of Radioactive Substances and X-Ray Devices for Gauging Equipment in Banten, May 21, 2024.

The activity was opened by DP2FRZR Director, Mukhlisin, who, in his remarks, said that BAPETEN is currently preparing a draft BAPETEN Regulation, which will replace BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009 on Radiation Safety in the Use of Radioactive Materials and X-Ray Machines for Gauging Equipment. "Therefore, public consultation is needed to obtain input from stakeholders," he said.

"I hope this activity will be a valuable momentum to unite the vision in developing radiation safety and radioactive material security in Indonesia; public consultation is an important tool in the process of making effective, fair, and responsive regulations to the needs of the community," Mukhlisin explained.

Eighty-eight online and eighteen offline participants from stakeholders who are permit holders for the use of ionizing radiation sources, including users of X-ray machines and radioactive materials for gauging equipment, attended this event.

The Director of DP2FRZR then presented the policy for monitoring nuclear energy use, and Sawiyah, the activity's PIC, presented the scope of the draft regulation in place of BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009 on Radiation Safety in the Use of Radioactive Materials and X-Ray Machines for Gauging Equipment.

Issues pertaining to officer competency, temporary storage permits, leak tests, verification reports, analysis of radiation protection officer requirements, provisions for measuring radiation exposure in gauging facilities, personnel who are required to measure exposure, and issues related to radiation hazard allowances for radiation workers were discussed, and questions and answers acknowledged as the event came to a close.
