National Seminar on Regulation, Supervisory, and Advancement of Nuclear Technology in Medical Applications

In a series of activities commemorating the 39th Anniversary of the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Solo, among many other activities, BAPETEN co-sponsors the “National Seminar on Regulation, Supervisory, and Advancement of Nuclear Technology in Medical Applications” held in the Faculty of Law UNS on Monday 30th, March, 2015.

Vice Rector I UNS Sutarno, officially opened the seminar. In his opening remarks, Sutarno said that nuclear development in the world is growing rapidly, regulation and supervision were already very tight. He added, nuclear can be used for a variety of purposes. But nuclear utilization in Indonesia is only used for peaceful purposes and for human welfare.

Chairman of BAPETEN Jazi Eko Istiyanto as the first keynote speaker, briefed how BAPETEN conducted supervision on medical applications using radioisotopes or ionizing radiation sources. “BAPETEN will only accept and authorize applications of proven technology that have been applied worldwide. It is therefore, we are still waiting for the result of BNCT (Boron-Neutron Computed Tomography) National Consortium led by PSTA BATAN”, he added.

As the second keynote speaker, GKR Hemas explained several nuclear techniques that have been used in curing cancer. This National Seminar was ended by technical discussions among panelists from UNS, NBCT National Consortium (PSTA BATAN), and Moewardi Hospital. [BHO/MR]
