The agenda of the trial this time is to listen to witness statements from various parties who know the alleged criminal acts of the nuclear energy sector. This is a follow-up to the report submitted by BAPETEN to the Criminal Investigation - National Police.

This law enforcement is carried out against one of the nuclear energy business owner in the industrial sector who is suspected of utilizing nuclear energy without a permit so that it threatens the safety and security of workers, the community, and the environment.

This case began with the finding of a radioactive source that did not have a utilization permit when BAPETEN conducted a routine inspection of one of the nuclear energy business owners. BAPETEN made persuasive efforts by sending Warning Letters 1 and 2 (SP1 and SP2). Due to the lack of commitment from related business owners to meet the points in SP1 and SP2, BAPETEN institutionally decided to carry out law enforcement efforts.

Present as one of the witnesses, Legal Advocacy Sub Coordinator, Muhammad Sujana Prawira who statement said stated that the law enforcement steps taken by BAPETEN were the ultimate remedium effort as a last resort after administrative efforts were not heeded.

Law enforcement is expected to have a deterrent effect for owners who ignore the provisions of the Nuclear Energy PUU so that the level of legal compliance will increase in the hope of creating nuclear safety and security for workers, the community, and the environment. (BHKK/DA/RA/OR)
