Since 2021, BAPETEN has gradually attempted to provide TPD values for CT scans, general radiography, interventional fluoroscopy, and diagnostic nuclear medicine, and today, Wednesday, April 24, 2024, BAPETEN has again launched the Indonesian Diagnostic Guideline Level Values for Dental Radiography and Mammography, so that our country now has complete national TPD values for all X-ray modalities.

The TPD launch was attended by the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo, Deputy for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin, Deputy for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti, and Head of Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (P2STPFRZR) Taruniyati Handayani, Director of Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR) Mukhlisin, Head of Internal Auditors Hery Budi Santoso, and Head of Bureau of Planning, Information, and Finance Achmad Busamah. The guests from outside BAPETEN consisted of representatives of the Directorate of Health Service Quality, professional organizations, educational institutions, and practitioners in health service facilities.

The Head of P2STPFRZR, Taruniyati Handayani, who acted as the organizer of this activity, said that the purpose of holding this activity was to provide information to the public about the diagnostic guideline level in dental radiography and mammography modalities. It is important to know together that the values of the Indonesian TPD are one of the tools to implement radiation protection optimization towards patient safety.

"The launch of TPD today certainly requires collaboration from all facilities through Si-INTAN (Patient Dose Data Information System), in addition to the active role of other stakeholders so that today it can be launched for the third time. On behalf of the committee, we express our deepest gratitude; hopefully it will bring blessings for all of us," he said.

Meanwhile, Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo, in his remarks, said that the stage that is no less important after determining the Indonesian TPD value is how to implement it in all hospitals and clinics in Indonesia. This is a shared challenge, so a shared commitment is also needed from all interested parties.

"One example of the implementation of TPD values is the implementation of dose audits through comparisons between the local TPD values of the facility and the Indonesian TPD values. In general, if the local TPD value of the facility is greater than the Indonesian TPD (above 20%), then an evaluation of the technical criteria, administration, and patient examination procedures is needed, followed by an action plan for improvement," he said.

"Likewise, if the TPD of the facility is much lower than the Indonesian TPD (below 20%), then an evaluation of the quality of the resulting image is needed," he added.

The Acting Chairman of BAPETEN hopes that patients undergoing diagnostic and imaging examinations with ionizing radiation must be maintained so that the radiation dose given to the patient can be as precise and accurate as possible according to their needs, to prevent unnecessary radiation from being given to the patient.

"Prevention of excessive or unnecessary radiation doses is the performance target of the TPD implementation," he concluded.

After delivering his remarks, the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN launched the Indonesian TPDI or I-DRL (Indonesian Diagnostic Reference Level) diagnostic guideline level value to be applied in all hospitals and clinics in Indonesia.

On this occasion, remarks and testimonials from several parties were also delivered regarding the determination of the TPDI. The testimonials included those delivered by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Dental Radiology Association. "We congratulate you for your dedication. You have worked hard, and we will support you. This guide is very valuable knowledge. We hope BAPETEN can continue to work together," he said.

Speeches were also delivered by Dr. Rahmat as the Chairman of PERSDI. "We congratulate you, and this will be a reference for us, because so far our references have only been international," he said.

The hope is that socialization will often be carried out for friends who provide radiology services, with this TPDI being our reference for measuring the level of quality and patient safety.

Testimonials and support also came from the Alliance of Indonesian Medical Physicists (AFISMI). "Of course this is something special for Indonesia, and this is a reference for health workers in Indonesia, especially in the field of radiology. We really support and we congratulate BAPETEN; hopefully we can collaborate," he said.

PARI also delivered a speech and testimonial. "With I-DRL, we can ensure that X-ray examinations can be carried out optimally while still maintaining patient safety. PARI feels honored and grateful; this marks an important step in improving patient diagnostics in the field of radiology." he said
