Hearing between Commission XII of the DPR RI and BAPETEN

Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a hearing (RDP) on July 21, 2025, to discuss issues regarding the transfer of assets from PT Industri Nuklir Indonesia (INUKI) to the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Attendees included Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo, Acting Secretary-General of the National Energy Council (DEN) Dadan Kusdiana, Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko, Deputy Head of BRIN Amarulla Octavian, President Director of PT INUKI R. Herry, and DEN member Agus Puji Prasetyono.

The hearing was chaired by the Deputy Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, Sugeng Suparwoto, who stated in his opening remarks that the meeting was an effort to resolve the PT INUKI asset transfer issue. "Hopefully, in this meeting, we can reach an agreement to resolve this matter, because if left unaddressed, it could endanger the public and the environment," he said.

Sugeng expressed expectation that all stakeholders would set aside sectoral egos and cooperate to settle the issue. He noted the problem. He pointed out that consultation and dialogue could simplify the problem through consultation and dialogue.

In his presentation, Sugeng Sumbarjo explained the regulatory oversight status of PT INUKI’s nuclear facilities. He also reported the results of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection conducted from June 16 to 23, 2025. "The IAEA inspection at the PT INUKI facility found that it obeyed the rules for keeping nuclear materials safe; specifically, all information about the facility, its nuclear materials, and related reports were checked and confirmed to meet international standards," he explained.

In addition to the Acting Chairman of BAPETEN, other attendees included the Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin; the Acting Deputy Chairperson for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Taruniyati Handayani; the Acting Head of the Bureau of Planning, Information, and Finance (BPIK), Esturini Fitriyanti; Director of Regulation for Nuclear Installation and Material Supervision (DP2IBN), Nur Syamsi Syam; and Director of Nuclear Installation and Material Inspection (DI2BN), Lukman Hakim.

The conclusions drawn from the meeting include a directive from Commission XII of the DPR RI urging BRIN and PT INUKI to complete the asset transfer process within two months. All parties agreed that PT INUKI, in collaboration with BRIN, bears responsibility for PT INUKI's nuclear facility assets, subject to oversight by BAPETEN. [BHKK/Da/Translator: GP]
