Field Verification of the Appointment of the Makassar BPAFK Dosimetry Laboratory for Radiotherapy Source Output Calibration Activities
Kembali 26 Mei 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 16 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), through the Directorate of Technical Support and Nuclear Emergency Preparedness (DKKN), conducted a field verification to ensure the readiness of the Makassar Healthcare Equipment and Facilities Security Center (BPAFK) Dosimetry Laboratory (LD) to provide radiotherapy source output calibration services. To carry out the radiation safety and radiation output measurement functions mandated by Minister of Health Regulation No. 28 of 2023, the Makassar BPAFK LD intends to expand its testing scope to include radiotherapy source output calibration for the linear accelerator (Linac) modality.
This field verification activity was conducted after the evaluation results in the B@LIS 2.5 application were deemed suitable for advancement to the field verification stage. This verification aims to confirm the conformity of the data submitted in the form of documents with actual conditions in the field, including legality, management system documents, facilities and infrastructure, test methods, and human resources.
During the verification, held from May 23 to 25, 2025, the BAPETEN team was led by Yudi Pramono, Director of the DKKN, and included three Radiation Supervisors: Suryo Adi Ari Santosa, Alimuddin, and Irma Septi Ardiani. The team's arrival was warmly received by the Head of the Makassar BPAFK, Tuti Jumriah Alwi, along with all BPAFK Makassar personnel who will be responsible for providing radiotherapy source output calibration services.
On the first day of the field verification, an entry meeting was held, a presentation by BPAFK Makassar regarding its profile and resources for the services to be provided was given, and BAPETEN presented the results of the document evaluation. This was followed by an examination of documents and BPAFK Makassar's facilities and infrastructure. On the second and third days, the verification continued with practical testing (personnel performance) utilizing the Linac facility at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital, which has an operating license from BAPETEN. In this practical testing, the personnel's ability to conduct testing, process results, and report is assessed, referring to work methods and IAEA TRS 398. BAPETEN requires assistance from a PPR (private researcher) or hospital medical physicist, as well as vendor technicians.
The field verification concludes with the submission of a Verification Inspection Report (BAP), which contains the verification results, along with any findings/corrective notes that must be followed up on by the Makassar BPAFK. The BAP is then signed by the Verification Team and the Head of Makassar BPAFK. After the verification findings have been followed up on, re-evaluated, and declared closed by BAPETEN, the Makassar BPAFK will be assigned a sub-scope for Radiotherapy Source Output Calibration for Linac modalities with photon and electron beam types, and the verification findings will be further evaluated and declared closed. The Makassar BPAFK is committed to promptly following up on the verification results so that the Radiotherapy Source Output Calibration service can be operational. It is hoped that the appointment of the Makassar BPAFK LD will help accelerate radiotherapy source calibration services, particularly in Eastern Indonesia.
