BAPETEN Supports Strengthened Import-Export Oversight at Tanjung Priok Port
Kembali 27 Agustus 2026 | I-Consep | 16 lihatEfforts to strengthen oversight at Indonesia's entry and exit points continue through the use of technology. A key milestone in this initiative was the inauguration of a container scanner system located at Terminal 3 and the PT Mustika Alam Lestari Temporary Storage Facility (TPS) at Tanjung Priok Port on Thursday (August 27, 2026). This newly inaugurated system marks the tenth container scanner installed within the Tanjung Priok Port area. Consequently, scanning facilities at the port now cover multiple locations, including JICT, KOJA, NPCT1, Terminal 3 (in conjunction with PT Mustika Alam Lestari), and TPFT Graha Segara.
The container scanner utilizes X-ray technology, enabling rapid inspection of cargo contents without unpacking the containers. The scanner is also equipped with a Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) designed to detect radiation from nuclear materials, radioactive materials, and radioactive contaminants. The RPM plays a crucial role in nuclear oversight by preventing the release or spread of radioactive material in imports and averting the export of contaminated products.
This event was organized by the Tanjung Priok Type A Main Customs and Excise Office (KPU Bea dan Cukai) and attended by representatives from the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency of Indonesia (BAPETEN), the Tanjung Priok Main Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), the DKI Jakarta Center for Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine (BBKHIT), PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Tanjung Priok, the Terminal 3 Container Terminal, and PT Mustika Alam Lestari. In a press statement, Adhang Noegroho Adhi, Head of the Tanjung Priok Type A Main Customs and Excise Office, noted that technological support, such as container scanning equipment, significantly bolsters the execution of Customs and Excise oversight functions. Haendra Subekti, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment at BAPETEN, stated that the use of radiation technology in the scanners has been authorized by BAPETEN and will undergo periodic verification by the agency to ensure operational radiation safety. He also highlighted the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the supervision and handling of import/export containers contaminated with radioactive substances, based on Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) readings at Tanjung Priok Port, which was agreed upon by 12 stakeholders in December 2025 to serve as an implementation guideline.
The inauguration of this facility is expected to further strengthen synergy among Customs and Excise, BAPETEN, port authorities, terminal operators, and relevant agencies, ensuring that the smooth flow of goods is maintained alongside the protection of public safety and the environment.
