Kembali 02 Maret 2026 | Berita BAPETEN | 10 lihatBAPETEN, through the Directorate of Regulation of Nuclear Installations and Materials (DP2IBN), conducted a Public Consultation on the Draft Amendment to BAPETEN Regulation Number 4 of 2018 concerning Safety Provisions for Nuclear Installation Site Evaluation on Friday, 27 February 2026, via an online platform. The activity aimed to gather input from ministries/agencies, local governments, academics, and business stakeholders as material for refining the substance of the regulatory amendments to ensure they are more comprehensive, adaptive, and responsive to developments in science and technology.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Haendra Subekti, Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment, who emphasized the importance of strengthening the regulatory framework in line with plans to develop Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) as part of the national energy mix. Adaptive regulations were considered essential to accommodate technological advancements, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and the potential development of floating nuclear power plants.
The session continued with a technical presentation delivered by Fery Putrawan, who outlined the key provisions of BAPETEN Regulation Number 4 of 2018 and the substance of its proposed amendments. The presentation covered the determination of site boundaries and evaluation radii, adjustments to provisions for nuclear power plants located in marine environments and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), as well as the strengthening of geotechnical, meteorological, hydrological, human induced event, and radioactive dispersion aspects.
The discussion, moderated by Zulfiandri, was conducted actively and generated various inputs from participants. These included issues related to site boundaries and land control, criteria for active faults, mechanisms for completing data requirements, coordination of subsea surveys, synchronization with environmental documents, nuclear emergency preparedness and response, and the need for more operational technical guidelines.
The activity was concluded by Nur Syamsi Syam, Director of DP2IBN, who expressed the expectation that the regulatory amendments would further strengthen safety aspects, accommodate various reactor designs including SMRs and floating nuclear power plants and continue to uphold the precautionary principle in line with the acceleration of national strategic programs in the field of nuclear energy.
