BAPETEN Leadership Meets with the Minister of Environment to Discuss Proposal for Coordination Under the Ministry of Environment
Kembali 19 Februari 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 7 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) leadership convened with the Minister of the Environment/Head of the Environmental Management Agency (KLH/BPLH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, as well as the Deputy Minister of the Environment/Deputy Head of the Environmental Management Agency, Diaz Hendropriyono, to review a proposal for BAPETEN to be overseen by the Ministry of the Environment, similar to practices in various countries. The gathering took place in Jakarta on February 18, 2025, with the objective of enhancing collaboration in the oversight and management of environmental issues associated with nuclear energy.
The Minister of the Environment expressed his appreciation for the dialogue and highlighted the necessity of an integrated approach to environmental management, which encompasses radiation and nuclear energy monitoring. He noted that collaboration between the Ministry and BAPETEN could enhance supervisory effectiveness while fostering sustainable development initiatives in Indonesia.
The event also featured presentations and discussions regarding BAPETEN's roles and responsibilities, led by BAPETEN's Deputy for Licensing and Inspection, Zainal Arifin, as well as Deputy for Nuclear Safety Assessment, Haendra Subekti.
The delegation from BAPETEN was present at the event, consisting of Acting Chairman of BAPETEN Sugeng Sumbarjo; Deputy Chairman for Licensing and Inspection Zainal Arifin; Deputy Chairman for Nuclear Safety Assessment Haendra Subekti; Director of Licensing of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials Asep Saefulloh Hermawan; Head of Bureau of Legal Affairs, Cooperation, and Public Communication Ishak; Head of Bureau of Planning, Information, and Finance Bureau Achmad Bussamah; and Head of Bureau of Organisation and General Services Indra Gunawan.
The discussion covered various critical aspects, such as possible updates to regulations, inter-agency coordination mechanisms, and implications for environmental regulations and radiation safety.
Additionally, the meeting underscored the necessity of enhancing the human resource capabilities in nuclear energy regulation, including the establishment of a National Civil Service Officer (PPNS) dedicated to environmental protection. The Ministry of Environment and BAPETEN are dedicated to ongoing discussions and collaboration to devise optimal strategies for ensuring effective oversight and safeguarding the environment concerning nuclear energy usage.
