Visit of the Drafting Team for the Regulation in Lieu of the BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009 to PT Indorama Petrochemicals
Kembali 22 Mei 2024 | Berita BAPETENOn May 22, 2024, the Directorate of Regulation of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DP2FRZR) of BAPETEN and the regulation's drafting team conducted a field visit to PT Indorama Petrochemicals to directly examine the application of ionizing radiation sources in measuring equipment. This activity is a continuation of the previous day's public consultations with stakeholders in Banten Province on draft legislation concerning radiation facilities and radioactive materials.
The Director of DP2FRZR BAPETEN, Mukhlisin, said that the purpose of this visit was to ensure whether BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009 had been implemented properly or not. Furthermore, the purpose of this visit is to collect enough data to determine the items in the draft in place of BAPETEN's Chairman Regulation Number 6 of 2009, which will then be amended to field conditions and in compliance with international standards.
During the activity, the Coordinator of the Health, Industry, and Research Facilities Regulation Function Group, Soegeng Rahadhy, gave a presentation on the application of nuclear power in the fields of health, industry, and radiation risk. He also explained the creation of regulations that implement balanced policies between authority owners, experts, and all stakeholders so that regulations become common property.
PT Indorama Petrochemicals, represented by Asep Saepudin from the Instrument Division Maintenance Department, explained the organizational structure of radiation protection at the facility, including the Radioactive Materials Security Officer (PKZR), radioactive sources, owned protection equipment, and Distributed Control System (DCS) monitors to monitor the gauging level. Health checks for workers are carried out periodically through Medical Check-up (MCU), and Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) dose checks are carried out routinely. Meanwhile, the radioactive coverage area has been described in the protection document, and training has been carried out regularly for new and old employees, including in the event of an emergency.
An important thing to note during the visit was the location or placement of radiation sources at different heights, where the radiation source wrapper and the vessel bracket attached to the radiation source, if rusty, will be difficult to open. This will be related to the regulation of the frequency of radiation exposure measurements and the implementation of radiation source leak tests. In addition, there are obstacles in the waste process to return radiation sources to the country of origin. [DP2FRZR/Eny Erawati/BHKK/AQ/Translator: GP]
