US DoE Visits BAPETEN to Discuss Strategic Trade Management
Kembali 19 Mei 2025 | Berita BAPETEN | 16 lihatThe Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN) hosted a visit from the United States Department of Energy (US DoE) to discuss cooperation and strengthening strategic goods oversight, or Strategic Trade Management (STM), in Indonesia on May 19, 2025.
The US DoE delegation was led by Chris Beedle, an expert from Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Mutti Anggitta from CPR, SUNY Albany. The delegation was welcomed by the Director of Inspection of Nuclear Installation and Materials (DIIBN), Lukman Hakim, and the Head of the Centre for Regulatory Assessment of Nuclear Installation and Materials (P2STPIBN), Taruni Handayani, along with relevant staff at Building A of BAPETEN.
During the meeting, the director of DIIBN outlined the progress of the STM oversight system development, which has now entered the identification stage of strategic goods categorized as dual-use goods, that is, goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes, including potential uses in nuclear activities.
The discussion also included a comparative study of STM implementation in several other countries, which can serve as a reference in developing a policy framework and oversight system tailored to Indonesia's needs and conditions.
This visit is expected to strengthen collaboration between Indonesia and the United States on strategic goods trade oversight and support the development of an effective national system aligned with international standards. [DI2BN/SetiawanAnugerahHarianto/BHKK/SP/Translator: GP]
