The Inspection of Radioactive Waste Supervision in Banten and Online Inspection in West Java
Kembali 17 Mei 2024 | Berita BAPETENBAPETEN, through the Directorate of Inspection of Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Materials (DIFRZR), carried out supervision inspections of several companies in the Banten and West Java regions on May 13-17, 2024. Supervision inspection activities were carried out on radioactive materials in several companies that have Radioactive Materials (ZRA) and have not had a permit for a long period.
The supervision inspection team in the Banten region was led by Junior Inspector (Inspektur Muda) Darwin Firnandus, with members Lukas Wisnu and Samsiatun Mudzkiyah, conducting supervision at the industrial facilities of PT Asia Pacific Fortuna Sari, PT Polari Limunusainti, and PT Ultra Prima Plast.
According to the results of the ZRA safety and security inspection at PT Ultra Prima Plast, there were two radioactive sources in the form of Kr-85, which had not been used since 2022, and gauging equipment that had been replaced with new technology that did not use Ionizing Radiation Sources (SRP). In addition, this inspection also found that the utilization permit had expired since August 2023, and then the radioactive source would be disposed of to the Radioactive Waste Management Installation, National Research and Innovation Agency (IPLR BRIN) with the assistance of a third party, namely PT Nuklindo.
Then, the results of the ZRA Safety and Security Inspection at PT Polari Limunusa Inti had one radioactive source unit in the form of Am-241, which had expired since 2021 but was still active and operating. The company stated that it was negligent in extending the permit for the use of the radioactive source so that the BAPETEN Inspector stopped the use of the ZRA until the permit process for BAPETEN had been carried out.
The online inspection in West Java was conducted by a team led by Junior Inspector Ilham Hidayat, with members Henda Yunihartanto and Muhammad Rizki. The results of the radiation safety inspection obtained by five health facilities in the Sukabumi and Ciamis areas include Assyifa Sukabumi Islamic Hospital, which obtained a Safety and Security Indicator (IKK) with a value of 77 (good), Sagaranten Regional General Hospital with a value of 83 (good), Ciamis Orthopedic Hospital with a value of 88.5 (good), Kartika Kasih Hospital with a value of 92.5 (very good), and Prima Husada Clinic with a value of 93.5 (very good).
Facilities that have received the IKK Good and Very Good predicates are expected to continue to maintain their radiation safety performance, while facilities that are prohibited from operating X-ray machines and radioactive materials are required to process utilization permits through the Online Single Submission (OSS), which is integrated with the BAPETEN Licensing and Inspection System (BALIS) Licensing 2.5 as soon as possible.
