The removal of contamination warning signs was carried out by the Cs-137 Task Force in the industrial and factory areas of the Modern Cikande Industrial Estate, Serang, following BAPETEN’s monitoring results confirming that the locations were free from hazardous radiation exposure. Of the 22 factories that were initially indicated to be contaminated, 20 have been fully decontaminated and declared “clear and clean,” while the remaining two are in the final stages of the cleanup process and are expected to be completed soon. Meanwhile, of the 13 non-industrial areas affected—such as scrap metal yards and junkyards—two locations have been declared clean and safe, while the rest are still undergoing intensive decontamination.

“The decontamination progress has been very significant and is moving quickly. We are optimistic that all affected areas will soon be clean and safe,” said Bara Hasibuan, Head of Diplomacy and Communication of the Cs-137 Task Force.

Meanwhile, BAPETEN also carried out several technical handling activities, including recording radioactive waste, measuring dose rates around the site, overseeing radiation protection practices, monitoring waste transport trucks after loading, as well as conducting shielding and cementing.

Through these measures, BAPETEN keeps its commitment to enhancing radiation safety and environmental protection, and to ensuring that all decontamination activities are carried out in accordance with national nuclear safety regulations and international standards. [BHKK/GP/Da]
