In 2024, the guidelines that were prepared focused on the use of ionizing radiation sources in radiotherapy facilities. This is because, in addition to the use of radiation, which has a high risk, the governance and infrastructure in radiotherapy facilities have been well organized, so it is hoped that good practices carried out in radiotherapy facilities can be used to enrich the content of the guidelines for implementing radiological reviews that are being prepared.

This technical guideline is used to guide license holders in carrying out radiological reviews that have a scope of review regarding the shortcomings and advantages of implementing justification, optimization, investigation, and correction of medical exposure. This follows Article 48 of Government Regulation No. 45 of 2023, which states that license holders are required to ensure that radiological reviews of medical exposure are carried out periodically at facilities for which they are responsible. Radiological reviews of medical exposure are also comprehensive reviews of patient safety related to the use of ionizing radiation sources.

The survey activity at the radiotherapy facility of Primaya Tangerang Hospital was welcomed and enthusiastically received by the hospital, consisting of Dr. Jocelyn Adrianto, MARS, as the Hospital Director; Head of the Radiotherapy Installation Dr. Maryam Fathima, Sp. Onk Rad; Edwien Setiawan as Level 1 Medical PPR (Radiation Protection Officer); Firyal Dhiyaul Haqqi as a medical physicist; and Yudha Permana as a radiotherapist. Likewise, during a visit to Hermina Bekasi Hospital, it was warmly welcomed by the hospital management and staff consisting of Dr. Khairina, MARS, as Director of Hermina Hospital Bekasi; Dr. Agnes Vianti, MARS, as Deputy Medical Director; Radiation Oncology Specialist Dr. Tisa Prima Putri, Sp. Onk. Rad.; Ismil Banida Nuryaman as Level 1 Medical PPR and Head of Radiotherapy Room; Riyan Muharam as Medical Physicist; and Dian Eka as Quality Development staff of Hermina Hospital.

These two hospitals expressed their appreciation and were ready to help contribute to the preparation of radiological review guidelines and hoped that what was obtained from this hospital would be a good example and learning for the implementation of guidelines that apply to all radiotherapy facilities in Indonesia.

After the opening session, the delivery of introductory material was continued, followed by a discussion session to explore information on the applicability of the guidelines with the help of a questionnaire. This activity ended with a review of the radiotherapy facilities owned by the two hospitals to see firsthand the implementation of patient services with radiotherapy. This is expected to complete the picture of the radiotherapy process depicted in the discussion regarding radiological reviews.

From the two visits conducted, the drafting team received many inputs, including the practice of implementing quality indicators, reporting, recording in the electronic medical record system, compiling and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) in one unit, and internal and external quality assurance.
